The Sherman Family

Kurlander, Leah - (Née Sherman) sister of Samuel Sherman, worked in ladies garment sales for her parents.

Nathan, Lawrence Meyer (1921-2004) - brother in law to Samuel Sherman.  Subcontracted part of the factory at Old Kent Road to manufacture clothing for the company as Fairgreen Clothes Limited.  The company ceased business in 1980.

Sherman, Danielle - daughter of Samuel Sherman's son Simon.  Started her own jewellery design business called Shermanfield. 

Sherman, David Anthony Harley  - son of Samuel Sherman.  Worked at the company from around 1954 in fabric design and general management.

Sherman, David Snr. - father of Samuel Sherman who established one of London's leading female tailors at 34 Shaftesbury Avenue in 1898.  

Sherman, Irene "Renee" Rachel (1910-2001) - wife of Samuel Sherman and non executive director of the company since 1960.  Owned Dentbond Limited which ran two fashion retail shops.

Sherman, Rebecca - mother of Samuel Sherman who opened her first boutique, Le Petite Magasin, at 369 Oxford Street.

Sherman, Rhonda - wife of Samuel Sherman's son Simon.

Sherman, Samuel - Chairman and Managing Director who founded the company in 1947 and retired in 1977.  The company was dissolved in July 1991. 

Sherman, "Sherry" Isadore Brian (1916) - brother of Samuel Sherman who worked at the Hanover Square Showroom with overall control of sales.  He started at the company when it was founded in 1947 and retired in 1977.

Sherman, Simon Clive (1943-1988) - son of Samuel Sherman.  Worked at the company from around 1962 in production and design as well as founding the Concept label.  Married Rhonda in 1977, had two daughters called Danielle and Lauren.  Emigrated to Los Angeles in 1979 and passed away in 1988 aged just 44.

Winnick, Lauren (1979) - (Née Sherman) daughter of Samuel Sherman's son Simon.

Albeck, Pat - fabric designer from 1963 to Samuel's emigration

Crawshaw, Diana - designer for Dollyrockers during the 1960s and may be the designer Diana on the Concept label.

Glascoe, Colin Glanville John - designer for Sambo, helped with the launch of Dollyrockers and had his own label from 1963.

Godfrey, Jeanette - (aka Jinty Martell) head designer for Sambo, before becoming the main designer for the first two seasons of Dollyrockers.  Left the company in Easter 1963.

Gomme, Helen - designer at Sambo

Hinton, Rosanna - worked at Dollyrockers alonside Diana Crawshaw.

Sinclair, Gill - a Yorkshire designer for the Concept label who was based at the Bermondsy factory.

Barnes, Sally - a buyer for House of Fraser who liaised with the business

Bierman, Mrs, E - export executive who started working there around 1951.

Gittens, David - photographer whose first studio was based in their Hanover Square building.

Heathcoat, John - supplier of fabrics to the Dollyrockers label.

Hollins Thompson - supplier of fabrics to the Sambo label, specialising in Terylene. 

Jones, H. B. - technical manager in charge of production, worked for the company since it was founded in 1947. 

Loverseed, B - production and sales coordinator who started working there in 1960.

Pearce, Richard - worked at Sambo Fashions on Old Kent Road from around 1961 before eventually being in charge of factory production as assistant technical and production manager.

Locations

Bermondsy - factory.

Crossfield Road - Samuel grew up at 11 Crossfield Road with his parents and siblings. 

Hanover Square - showroom and offices at 10c Hanover Square from the mid 1950s onwards.

Goodwood Road - warehouse, office and garage space 

Middlesex Street - factory premises at 96-98 Middlesex Street for Barmaico Ltd which manufactured fashions for the Colin Glascoe label.

Old Kent Road - factory, warehouse and despatch space at 506-510 Old Kent Road which included a sublet of factory space to Samuel's brother-in-law Lawrence, operating as Fairgreen Clothes Limited.  Closed in 1978.

Oxford Street - location of the first Sherman boutique "Le Petit Magasin", opened at 369 Oxford Street by Samuel's mother Rebecca.

Shaftesbury Avenue - location of the original Sherman ladies tailoring shop, opened in 1898 at 34 Shaftesbury Avenue.  

Wardour Street - Samuel lived at 31 Wardour Street as a baby with his parents and sisters Leah and Ada.
